Speaker/Bio: Duc Lai
Duc Lai, Vice President of IT Security, and Chief Information Security Officer at the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) since 2021, plays a pivotal role in safeguarding critical healthcare information. UMMS, a prominent healthcare provider in Maryland, operates 12 hospitals, employs over 30,000 staff members, and manages approximately 150 clinics.
Before joining UMMS, Duc served as the head of Information Security and IT Engineering at a financial services firm with assets exceeding $30 billion. His leadership drove multiple IT transformation initiatives, positioning the organization for success. Duc’s career also includes significant contributions in operational and engineering roles within Fortune 500 companies, where he honed expertise in information security, privacy, compliance, telecommunications, and IT service management.
Duc’s journey began at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. His subsequent service as a U.S. Army officer further shaped his leadership skills. He later pursued an MBA from the University of Maryland Global Campus and holds several industry certifications, including CISM, CISSP, CEH, MBA.
