Session 1: Beyond the Paper-Trail: Due Diligence in Document-Poor Contexts
Presenter: Fabienne de Blois
This session will deep dive into the ways in which source enquiries and contextual understanding can help triangulate risk assessments in circumstances when documents do not exist. We'll focus on case studies relating to the source of wealth and seed capital for individuals and businesses in jurisdictions where documents either do not exist, are frequently counterfeited, or do not carry legal or contractual significance. Building an understanding of the role of documents in the establishment and regulation of businesses, and the attestation of wealth, in a particular environment can help build a more holistic picture of both the risks at mitigants attached to a subject individual or entity during the customer onboarding and pre-transactional due diligence process.
Learning Objectives:
- Understanding enhanced due diligence processes in "document-poor" economies;
- Contextualizing documentation and its issuance to better understand the AML, fraud and corruption risks attached to a transaction; and
- Understanding pre-transactional due diligence to sustain wealth preservation.
Session 2: Reducing Software Vulnerabilities With a Secure-by-Demand Approach
Presenter: Allen Ari Dziwa
This course explores the critical role of secure-by-design and secure-by-default principles in reducing software vulnerabilities that expose organizations to cyberrisk. Participants will learn how these approaches proactively integrate security throughout the software development lifecycle and how secure-by-redesign strategies apply to legacy systems. The training will also examine how market forces, rather than mandates, can drive software manufacturers toward adopting these principles to meet stakeholder demands and reduce long-term operational risk.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify key differences between secure-by-design, secure-by-default, and secure-by-redesign principles in the context of software development and cybersecurity.
- Describe how software vulnerabilities impact business risk, and explain how secure development practices can mitigate these risks.
- Evaluate how stakeholder demands and market forces can influence software manufacturers to prioritize security in product development and legacy system management.
